NEW YORK, July 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Center for Financial Stability (CFS) is pleased to announce its upcoming conference, Bretton Woods 2014: The Founders and the Future. The invitation-only gathering will begin with a welcome dinner on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Working group sessions will be held on Sept. 3 and Sept. 4.
"We are using the 70th anniversary of the original Bretton Woods conference as a springboard to inspire pragmatic, long-term, strategic thinking about the most pressing issues facing the global financial system today," said Lawrence Goodman, president of CFS. "Nearly seven years since the onset of the financial crisis, stresses remain. The goal of Bretton Woods 2014 is to inspire long-term thinking about the international financial system and create tangible, actionable solutions for the future."
Bretton Woods 2014 will bring together prominent leaders from government, business and academia in a working-group environment to focus on the future of finance and the international monetary system. Delegates will gather at the historic Mount Washington Resort in New Hampshire, where the entire hotel will be exclusively available for the conference, just as it was in 1944.
Working group topics will include:
- Prospects for the world's foreign exchange system;
- The future of finance and financial institutions;
- Technology and the future of the international financial system;
- How to anticipate and manage future crises better;
- The future of sovereign debt restructuring;
- The future role of the IMF and World Bank;
- History and leadership at Bretton Woods in 1944.
The 1944 conference was famous for developing new rules for the international financial system and creating two institutions at the core of the system to this day – the IMF and World Bank. Previously unpublished transcripts of the original conference were found, edited, and published by CFS in 2012.
